Ruby Fay

You will be missed so very, very much.
I love you.

Mother of six; Grandmother of more than ten grandchildren;
Great-Grandmother to Who-Knows-How-Many great-grandchildren;
(She may have even been a Great-Great....I do not know for sure...)

How do I describe my Grandma?
A devout Christian; a self-proclaimed poor country girl;
a never-ending complainer; a funny, wiley woman.

I am lucky that I got to have her at my wedding.
I wish that she could have made it for my brother's.

It has been a running joke in my family about her complaining nature, and how she can find something wrong with everything (except for Jesus).  And as such, it is almost impossible to catch her smiling on camera.  When she poses for pictures, she almost NEVER smiles, so these photos that I found on my computer are wonderful and I would like to share.

(My brother's fiance's favorite story about Granma Ruby is about the first time she met her, and my Grandmother was complaining about a bird-feeder that my dad had put up for her as a present so that she could watch the birds.  It was funny, because we all knew she LOVED watching those birds ever since she got that feeder, but all she could do was complain about it!  So my mom started complaining too, but about the birds instead of the bird-feeder.  My grandma shot straight up in her chair super-fast and said "Don't you talk 'bout those birds - JESUS made those birds!!!")

(She also told me once that Jesus would never go to the Blue Marline in Columbia, SC - mostly because it was too crowded - and something else about the people, but I couldn't make it out)

(This is also the grandma who - instead of saying Hi - told me that I looked fat at my cousin's wedding.)

(This is also the grandma who hugged me tight and told me that I was "her little freak" when I walked into her house with double-permed-out, fire-engine red hair and a spiky dog collar around my neck.)

Here's to an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and Woman!
I'm so happy I got to see you before you left.

~

Some glad morning when this life is o'er,
I'll fly away;
To a home on God's celestial shore,
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, Oh Glory
I'll fly away; (in the morning)
When I die, Hallelujah, by and by,
I'll fly away

When the shadows of this life have gone,
I'll fly away;
Like a bird from prison bars has flown,
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then,
I'll fly away;
To a land where joy shall never end,
I'll fly away

~

  2. Life is too short, especially for those that you love. It is that love that keeps them here with us and holding those memories close will help them stay in your heart. You never truly die as long as someone still loves you, and an amazing person such as your grandmother will live on in the hearts of many.
